Thu May 3
Our second big day as tourists was compliments of Chantal et Andre, Sarah's Aunt and our hosts in Paris. The first stop was the Sacre Coeur cathedral. What a place and what a view from the top of the hill.
Next up was the Eiffel Tower. It's deceptively big, meaning that you think it's bigger than it is because there's nothing else around it, so then you convince yourself it's not that tall after all. We looked it up, and it's tall! (a full 100 meters shorter than the Empire State Building, but more than 40 meters taller than the Chrysler building).
We walked to the 2nd level (668 steps) and enjoyed the following view:
Later that afternoon we met Sarah's cousin at a cafe to catch up over a glass of Orangina (which by the way cost 5 euros! Thanks again Andre). Don't you think her cousin looks like her sister Rebecca, and Chantal and Sarah look a lot alike?
I took this picture of the opera from Andre's car as we were going back to their place (it was a red light at the moment). It's completely typical of Parisien architecture in that it's totally beautiful.
